George Herms, artista encuadrado en la generación beat norteamericana, fue uno de los pioneros del assemblage, la escultura realizada a partir de la reunión de materiales heterogéneos, normalmente de desecho. Según narra la reseña de la pieza en la página del Norton Simon Museum, "...the anthropomorphic sculpture was inspired by a librarian who had introduced the young Herms to the writings of Joseph Conrad. Conrad had an enormous influence on the artist, as did the librarian who made the books available to him."

Despues de que a esto http://artscenecal.com/ArticlesFile/Archive/Articles1995/Articles1095/Herms1.html lo llame un "Mothers Group" no hay porque ofenderse que al espantajo ese lo llame bibliotecario
